With Easter just around the corner (and then Mother's Day after that!), we wanted to try out the services of a popular online flower delivery service, Florists.com. They work with experienced local vendors to create fresh, expertly arranged bouquets that are hand-delivered to your recipient's door. Florists.com boasts a wide selection of flower types and bouquet options for you to choose from, and their prices are very competitive, with many bouquets in the $35 - $50 range. If you are looking for something more extravagant, they can certainly accommodate that as well with lovely gift baskets and custom-made wreaths. Most bouquets also have a "wow factor" selector that lets you pick the size of the arrangement.
Almost all of their bouquets are arranged by local florists, but some rural areas may not have a florist within reasonable distance of a delivery location. If you happen to want to send flowers to area not served by one of their vendors, you can still get fresh flowers delivered, but they will be shipped in a gift box and not delivered in a vase. They make sure to call this out on every product page so you know exactly what you're ordering.
Order & Checkout Process:
Once I chose my bouquet, I was led through a very clear checkout process that began with choosing my bouquet size and entering the recipient's zip code to make sure they deliver to that location. I went with the "deluxe" version, as that is what is shown in the picture, and I thought it was a nice looking arrangement.
The only hiccup that I could find was the inability to edit delivery date once you reach the shopping cart. I wanted to change the delivery date I had previously selected, but my only shopping cart options were to change the quantity or edit the message on the card. I had to remove the bouquet from my cart and start over to pick a new delivery date. Although this is one area with room for improvement, having to start over only set me back a minute or two because the rest of their checkout experience is pretty seamless.
I also had the option of making my bouquet extra special with the addition of balloons ($10 apiece for mylar or $8 for latex), a box of chocolates ($15-$25), or an adorable teddy bear ($20-$30). This really is a one-stop-shop for sending someone a thoughtful sentiment.
They have a spot to enter a discount code, so of course I hopped over to TheCoupon.co to check to see what deals they were currently offering. Lucky me, they had a $15 off coupon that made this order a real steal. Check out those savings!!
The only thing they don't show on this page is the delivery cost, which seems to be $14.99 for most orders under $70. After $70, the shipping goes up slightly to $17.99. So, after the coupon, I basically got free shipping. No complaints here! The final cost shows up on the billing page where I entered my billing address and credit card info. All in all it was a quick and intuitive shopping and order experience.
I was pleasantly surprised when the flowers were delivered around 10:30 in the morning on my requested delivery date. Delivery times may differ according to the local florist that receives the order, and it may take slightly longer on or around a popular holiday like Mother's Day. Regardless, these arrived early enough to be enjoyed almost the entire day that they were sent. The card that was included was just a folded piece of paper with a computer printout of the message I entered when I selected the bouquet. As per the Florists.com substitution policy, the flowers in the arrangement differed slightly from the ones shown in the photo on their website, but the colors, size, and overall effect of the bouquet were very similar. Also, the bouquet that was delivered included half a dozen unopened lilies, so I anticipate it will bloom into an even more grand bouquet in the days to come.
I was very pleased with my experience ordering from Florists.com. Their website was laid out in a simple manner that wasn't overly cluttered or confusing. The bouquet prices were very reasonable compared to other online florists (especially with the extra discount!), and the checkout process was fast, accurate and secure. The bouquet arrived on the day I requested, looked similar to the product I was expecting, and included the note for the recipient I had entered when ordering the bouquet.
