I'm new to the subscription box bandwagon, so I have to admit I was a little giddy when my March Bestowed box arrived in the mail. It's like opening a birthday present, but it wasn't even my birthday! I think the anticipation factor by itself could get me hooked on subscription boxes, but I digress.

As I excitedly dove in to the bright orange box, I kept being pleasantly surprised by what I found. As a mom of a little one, I'm always on the lookout for healthy snacks I can throw in my purse on my way out the door (I've also been known to steal my daughter's Goldfish when I get desperate, so having healthy alternatives is a win-win for both of us). The theme of the March box was "products to help motivate you to stay on track with your goals." This sounds like just what I need as winter comes to an end and we round the corner into spring. So, without further ado, here's what's inside!

Ocean's Halo Seaweed Chips:

I really only consume seaweed when it's used to hold a delicious sushi roll together, so I wasn't sure how I would like the underwater plant by itself. I was pleasantly surprised by the mild taste (not too ocean-y) and hint of sea salt used for seasoning. They are gluten-free, high in protein and fiber, and only 95 calories per serving. I don't eat a lot of potato chips, but these are a nice alternative that provide a savory taste and satisfying crunch without being loaded with saturated fat or starch.

NoGii High Protein Bar:

Spoiler alert: YUM! I love the convenience of a granola or snack bar, but sometimes it's hard to find bars that taste good and are more than just glorified candy bars. The NoGii bar delivers on both accounts! It's gluten-free and has a good balance of protein, fat, and carbs to supply some long-lasting energy. The soy crisps provide a nice crunch, while the chocolate drizzle makes it just sweet enough. At 230 calories per bar, it's more of a meal replacement or post-workout snack than a casual between-meals snack. However, it's big enough that I could probably cut it in half and turn it into two still-satisfyingly-sized snack bars.

Stash Organic Gold Cup Chai Tea:

Some people swear by chai tea, but to be honest, I've never been a huge fan. Something about the sweet and spicy combination is usually a bit of a turnoff for me. Of course this is the product that Bestowed sends in a full-sized, 18-tea bag box. Being the brave reviewer that I am, I took a deep breath, forged ahead, and brewed myself a cup of tea. On the plus side, it's organic, and it's billed as "smoother and milder" than a traditional chai tea. At first taste, it does come off as a bit milder, but there's still that aftertaste of ginger and clover that I'm just not that into. Looks like it's time to invite over 17 of my closest chai-loving friends for a tea party! If, however, you DO like chai tea, Stash is a great choice because they use a blend of six different organic spices to make this herbal libation.

Hooray Purée Spinach:

This intriguing box contains two 4-ounce pouches of organic spinach purée. They suggest mixing it in to your favorite recipes to give them a nutritious boost. I'm always looking for ways to get in my daily recommended dose of veggies, so I'm excited to try mixing this in to my next meal to see what it tastes like. Some of the suggestions they provide include adding it to mac & cheese, tacos, soups, casseroles, yogurts, and even cakes & pies. I can get behind most of those, but if I'm making a cake, I'm not trying to pretend I'm doing it for my health. Although, maybe I could justify having TWO pieces of cake if it had some spinach mixed in…but why risk ruining a perfectly good cake? That said, I love the convenience of being able to boost any recipe with extra veggies with little-to-no extra effort.

Nutiva O'Coconut Treat:

So I get 18 tea bags but only one of these delicious coconut morsels. Why, world, why?!? These delectable puppies are 60 calories a pop, made with organic coconut, and each one contains 1.5 teaspoons of coconut oil (one of the good fats!). It has a refreshing coconut flavor, but isn't overly chewy or husky like some coconut products. I would definitely get more of these to keep in my pantry's snack stash.

Tera's Bourbon Vanilla Organic Protein:

This little packet of protein powder really delivers! It's made with certified organic ingredients including dairy protein, oat bran, quinoa and chia seed. The package suggests mixing it with "water, milk or your favorite beverage." I tried adding it to a glass of cold milk and shaking well. The result? A tasty energy-boosting beverage! It was surprisingly good and didn't have a chalky aftertaste like I've experienced with other protein supplements. This would be a nice product to bring along to the office and mix up for a healthy and easy morning pick-me-up.

JollyOak S'mores Granola:

I love granola. I love s'mores. Why hasn't anyone brought these two delightful snacks together before? The single serve packet makes this snack ideal for throwing in your bag on your way out the door. It is lighter and fluffier than most granola thanks to the puffed kamut (a high-protein, organic wheat), but there's still a nice crunch with the walnuts, almonds and pistachios. Pus, the first ingredient is whole grain rolled oats, so you know you're getting some solid nutrition. I have to say, I think it could do without the dried marshmallows though. They were overly chewy and I wound up picking them all out. It also has a bit of an "earthy" flavor to it. Overall, it's a convenient, tasty snack and a nice addition to the box!

$40 Coupon for HelloFresh.com:

The final addition to the March Bestowed box is a coupon for HelloFresh.com. This company delivers delicious and healthy recipes with all the pre-measured ingredients to your door each week, so you can prepare fresh, nutritious meals in a snap. They have regular and vegetarian boxes to choose from (starting at $69 and $59 each for three 2-person meals), and you can try them out for cheap with this $40 coupon.

Overall Score:

For only $20 a month (or even less if you subscribe for multiple months), the Bestowed box delivers a good value for your money. Packed with delicious and nutritious snacks, it will open your eyes to new products and help fill your pantry with healthy and convenient foods. All of the products were either organic or all-natural, and there was a nice variety of products and flavors to satisfy a wide range of tastes.
